The field

Forty-eight teams, up from thirty-two in 2022, which brought sixteen extra places and a good many debutants. Ordered here by how far each side got, then alphabetically within each round.

Sixteen went out at the group stage, a third of the field, where under the old format it was half. That is the clearest single effect of the expansion: reaching the knockout rounds became substantially easier, and the tournament's real cut came a round later.
